Uttarakhand Assembly session begins on a noisy note

DEHRA DUN: The Budget session of the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha began on a noisy note on Monday with Congress members shouting slogans during the Governor’s address against alleged irregularities in the counting of postal ballots for the Pauri Prliamentary by-election recently. They were also demanding release of the Shiksha Acharyas arrested while staging a demonstration in front of the Education Minister’s residence on Sunday.

Listing the priorities of the Government, the Governor, B. L. Joshi, said efforts would be made to generate employment opportunities in the hills to check the exodus of youth to the plains in search of jobs. Natural resources will be tapped while keeping the environment in consideration and efforts will be made to attract investments in the remote hills. All this would help in achieving a higher growth rate and provide the much needed earning opportunities nearer home as dreamt by the Uttarakhand activists, the Governor said.

“The Government aims at developing the infrastructure to improve the quality of life of the masses by accelerating industrialisation, growth of horticulture, floriculture and agricultural production, value addition of farm produce and empowering women to add to the family income,” he added.

“Efforts will be made to reach the benefits of all development activities to the poorest so that the economy of the society as a whole could improve. Special schemes would be run for imparting normal and need based technical education to all,” the Governor asserted.

Later, talking to newspersons, Chief Minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri described the commotion caused by the Congress as unfortunate. “The Governor’s address is a solemn occasion that should be respected by all,” he said.
