Importance of hiring employees with right attitude stressed

VISAKHAPATNAM: Speakers at a two-day national seminar on “Talent management for corporate excellence” underlined the importance of hiring employees with the right attitude and formulation of proper employee-retention strategies for the success of any company.

The seminar, being organised by the Department of Management Studies, Gayatri Vidya Parishad, got underway at the college on Monday.

Attrition rate

Director (personnel) of Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd. (NLC) P. Babu Rao, who participated as chief guest, said that companies should focus on talent management to achieve corporate excellence and bring down attrition rates. Though India was a labour-surplus country, with the majority of the population being young, there was a huge talent crunch in many areas, leading to attrition.

He felt that companies must focus on hiring people with the right attitude and then impart the required training to them.

He said for the past 15 years, the attrition was hardly 0.5 per cent in NLC. The company was looking after the employees very well and, therefore, hardly anyone was willing to leave it.

Senior Vice-President of Reliance Industries Limited (Mumbai) G.P. Rao gave a presentation on ‘Talent management’, its parameters and how an organisation grows harmoniously when principles were followed.

He said there would be fierce competition among corporates to get the right kind of staff and therefore it was necessary to formulate suitable employee retention strategies.

College Coordinator D. Dakshina Murthy spoke on the importance of employee-retention for the growth of organisations.

College Principal P.V. Sarma, Head of the Department of Management Studies S. Rajani and Chief Executive Officer of Exclusive Search Recruitment Consultancy, Chennai, P.V.R. Murthy spoke.
