Petition against animal sacrifice

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday posted to Tuesday a petition by Mookanna and several other residents of Tumkurhalli village in Chitradurga district, challenging the decision of some village elders and priests of Ooru Maaramma Temple to perform animal sacrifice. They had decided to sacrifice a buffalo and sheep during the festival to be held from March 11 to 14.

The petitioners said the Karnataka Prevention of Animal Sacrifice Act, 1959, would be violated.
