Children’s education fund launched

BANGALORE: Dwarakanath Reddy Ramanarapanam Trust on Sunday launched its Dwarakanath Reddy Institutes for Knowledge (DRIK) Children’s Education Fund for children from rural and urban poor communities.

Secretary to Government, Higher Education, T.M. Vijaya Bhaskar launched the initiative.

The prime objectives include enabling poor children to directly access financial support, stake ownership to that support, get involved in decision making and manage it by themselves.

The trust has donated Rs. 25 lakh towards the fund. The 14 groups that avail the grants will be given up to Rs. 20,000 a group as the first instalment, which will be used within each group as a self-managed revolving fund. — Staff Reporter
