Bangalore: Traffic was thrown out of gear in the central parts of the city on the first day after traffic diversions were put in place in view of the construction of the underpass at BDA Junction. Praveen Sood, Additional Commissioner (Traffic), told The Hindu that movement of heavy vehicles had been diverted near the BDA Junction. “However, the space allowed for other vehicles to go straight towards Mekhri Circle is narrow. There is space only for one vehicle, which complicated matters during the peak evening hours. Due to this, a lot of traffic jams were reported in the surrounding areas,” he said. Mr. Sood said that post the historic win against South Africa, the newly crowned Indian under-19 cricket World Cp champions will be landing at Bangalore at 4 p.m. From the airport, the team will head towards Karnataka State Cricket Association stadium for a felicitation ceremony. The team will take the Airport Road, Mahatma Gandhi Road and Cubbon Road to reach the stadium. “The team is arriving in the city during the peak evening hours. The public should try to avoid commuting on Airport Road, M.G. Road and Cubbon Road,” he said.
