Police clueless about killer vehicle

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The police are still groping in the dark to trace the car that knocked down a police constable on night patrol, resulting in his instantaneous death, in J.P. Nagar police station limits on Saturday.

Constable P.C. Nagesh (31) of J.P. Nagar police station was on patrol along with a colleague on their motorcycle when a local resident called the police station about sighting a man removing the hubcaps of some cars parked near Ambarish Park.

The police alerted Nagesh who was riding pillion on the motorcycle.

As the police closed in, the suspect rushed to a white car and got in.

Even as he was driving off, Nagesh and his colleague approached from the opposite direction.

The car brushed the motorcycle and Nagesh fell off the vehicle and was run over by the car.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) S. Ravi told The Hindu on Monday that they did not have any clues about the car and its driver. The impact of the collision was minimal and there were no dents on the motorcycle. Nagesh fell on his temporal region, bled profusely and died on the spot, he said.

Description

Eyewitnesses have told the police that the white “Tata Indica car had a yellow registration board.” There was hardly any scope for the policemen at the spot to take down the registration number of the car as they were aghast by the incident, Mr. Ravi said.

“Even if the car that was involved in the incident is shown to us we can not identify it,” he remarked.
