Corporation to streamline operation of the plant Steps taken to ensure functioning of the project THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has sanctioned Rs.5.13 crore to the city Corporation to take over the garbage treatment plant at Villapilsala from the private operators. Minister for Local Self Government Paloli Mohammed Kutty said the government had given sanction to take over the garbage plant at a cost of Rs.8.07 crore. Of the total amount needed for taking over the plant, the government has provided Rs.5.13 crore. The city Corporation will have to find the remaining amount of Rs.1.97 crore needed for taking over the plant. The Minister said the Corporation had been allowed by the government to take loan from the Kerala Urban Development Finance Corporation. Mr. Kutty said the government has also given direction to the city Corporation to take steps to ensure that the functioning of the garbage treatment plant at Vilappilsala is streamlined. In February, the Corporation Council decided to avail a loan of Rs.7.07 crore from Kerala Urban Development Finance Corporation to take possession of the garbage treatment plant from the Poabsons Group. The local body have initiated a series of measures to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the seven-year-old project.
