THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has decided to kick off the second phase of the Capital City Development project from March 11. The works will commence at a function to be attended by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar, legislators and people’s representatives, according to Minister for Public Works Mons Joseph. The widening of the road stretches where land had been acquired and construction of flyovers will resume, Mr. Joseph said. Land for Punj LloydThe government has decided to handover land near Anayara belonging to the Department of Agriculture for Punj Lloyd, an engineering firm, to set up plant and store construction materials. The project has been in a limbo for more than a year following the delay in acquiring the land needed for road development, the Minister said. It was on January 4 that an agreement was reached between the government and Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company Limited (TRDCL) to resume the project. The consortium is a joint venture between the Consolidated Toll Network Limited (CTNL) and Punj Lloyd. The project came to a halt in November 2006. The City Roads Improvement Project involves the development of 12 road corridors measuring 44 km, two flyovers, an underpass, 65 junctions and 94 bus bays. The Minister said the company had been given two months time to resume the works.
