THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The All Kerala Telecom and Postal Contractors Association has urged the Postal Department to appoint an Executive Engineer to the Kerala Postal Circle division in the capital. A press note, quoting association secretary P.Thyagarajan, said the post of Executive Engineer had been lying vacant since the incumbent opted for voluntary retirement in October 2007. It said the failure to fill the vacancy had brought all the civil construction works under the department to a halt across the State. He pointed out that the construction of three major post offices at Sasthamangalam, Varkala and Poojappura could not be taken up in the absence of an Executive Engineer. The three post offices, he observed, had been sanctioned years back. The association said the capital could lose the three post offices if the project was delayed. “Unless an Executi- ve Engineer is appointed or charge handed over, it is likely that projects worth Rs.1 crore would be terminated,” the release said. The association urged the Minister for Postal Services and the Chief Post Master General for steps to address the issue.
