PURA project launched

KASARAGOD: Fisheries Minister S. Sarma on Tuesday launched the Coastal PURA project of the State government at Mangalpadi panchayat in Manjeswaram here. The PURA project, acronym for ‘providing urban amenities in rural areas,’ aims at development of coastal areas. Mr. Sarma said houses would be built for all homeless fishermen in Mangalpady and Manjeswaram as a part of the project. An IT centre would also come up in the panchayat, he said.

The aim of the project was to provide all urban facilities to fishermen villages so that they would not feel the need to migrate to towns, he said. C.H. Kunhambu, Manjeswaram MLA, said that work on Marine Academy at the constituency would start soon.
