Manufacture slippers from vetiver, says VS

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has urged Kudumbasree volunteers to manufacture slippers from vetiver (ramacham), an Ayurvedic medical plant.

Mr. Achuthanandan put forward the suggestion at a function convened to inaugurate the marketing of ‘People,’ a brand of food products brought out by the volunteers of the Kudumbasree Mission, in association with the district panchayat, in the city on Tuesday.

Mr. Achuthanandan said the use of slippers made from vetiver could help reduce blood pressure. “Buy ramacham slippers and reduce pressure; that should be our motto,” said Mr. Achuthanandan. As part of the Rs.2.3-crore ‘People’ project, a variety of products, including pickles, spices, curry powders, diabetic food, tapioca chips and rice and wheat powders, will be manufactured by the volunteers of Kudumbasree. The products will be packaged at a packing centre at the world market at Anayara. All the products will be organic and devoid of any artificial flavouring.
