Training in solid waste management

PERAMBALUR: A two-day training programme in ‘solid waste management’ to benefit panchayat presidents was inaugurated here on Tuesday. The District Revenue Officer, P. Sankar, said that the Centre had sanctioned Rs.2.15 crore for the programme in Perambalur and Ariyalur districts.

Each panchayat would get Rs.65,000 for setting up a compost-shed and for purchasing vehicles for colleting garbage.

The Panchayat union chairman, K. Periyasamy, and the Assistant Project Officer, Kannan, and resource-persons on solid waste management were among those who spoke.
