One person was arrested from Kesinga area BHUBANESWAR: Police claimed a major breakthrough in the alleged gang-rape of a Sambalpur University student after arrest of one Sachin Sharma from Kesinga area of Kalahandi district. Sharma, against whom more than 15 serious crimes, including charges of rape and murder were pending, was apprehended by the police from Dangarpada village. The accused was found in his relative’s house when teams of 30 police personnel conducted raid in the night of Monday. Acting on a tip-off from Sambalpur police, Kesinga police searched several places before nabbing Sharma. Later, the Kesinga police said all the identification supplied to them about the accused matched. He was sent to Sambalpur. The accused also reportedly disclosed names of three more anti-socials who were said to have been involved in the heinous crime. The Sambalpur police constituted several teams to track down the persons named by Sharma, sources said. Earlier, four persons were picked up by the Sambalpur police and they were forwarded to court in connection with the gang-rape. Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar earlier said that they had strong evidence against the arrested persons. The gang-rape of the student had evoked angry reactions from students across the State. Students of Gangadhar Meher Autonomous College boycotted classes several times.
