Computers down; work hit in taluk office

Staff Correspondent

Activity in the tahsildar’s office comes to a standstill

DAVANGERE: Work at the tahsildar’s office here has been affected for the past 15 days, as the office computers are dysfunctional. Farmers who approached the office seeking various documents such as caste, income, small farmer, domicile or landless farmer certificates have been asked to come after a week or 10 days.

Certificates on hold

The breakdown of the system at the office has caused great inconvenience to the people, many of whom need the certificates in order to purchase land or tractors, for transfer of “katha” and submitting applications for various schemes. Apart from farmers, elderly people, the disabled and widows have also been affected. These people urgently need certificates from the office to get their pension and other benefits.

Officials have even been requested to issue certificates manually till the computers are restored. However, they say that they are not permitted to issue them manually. People said that they had paid the stipulated fees to procure various certificates and said the officials were not being helpful. Shivanna, a farmer from Mayakonda, has been running after officials for the past four days to get a small-farmer certificate. He has bought a tractor and wants to transfer the document of ownership in his name. As small farmers are eligible for a rebate on road tax, he asked for a certificate. But the office has not issued it to him. The officials said that the server had been down for the past 15 days.

Without computers they could not do work. Since the “Bhoomi” and “Nemmadi” programmes had been clubbed together, no certificate under the schemes could be issued. The officials said that “mutation” and “Pahani” certificates were given under the “Bhoomi” programme.
