Two held, gold recovered

GUNTUR: Two persons of notorious Dakkala gang accused in several theft cases in Repalle, Chilakaluripet, Narasaraopet and Vinukonda have been arrested by Repalle police. The police arrested Chinnakarni Chalamaiah (20) and Potteti Mariyadasu (20) and recovered 33 sovereigns of gold worth Rs.2.65 lakh from their possession.

Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha said on Tuesday that the two accused had been committing theft since July 2007 and were mostly engaged in night house burglaries. They also used to snatch away gold chains from women sleeping in verandahs.

They were accused in several theft cases at Nagaram, Bhattiprolu, Phirangipuram, Muppala and Chilakaluripet areas, he said. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at Rs.2.85 lakh.The S.P complimented Inspector T. Murali Krishna for having recovered Rs.2.65 lakh out of the total value of the stolen ornaments.
