Indecent depiction of women flayed

Rajahmundry: The round table conference conducted by the Rajahmundry Women Committee has demanded action against those TV channels which are allegedly showing women in a disguisting manner. The committee asked the film and TV censor Board to make the law stringent and take severe action against TV channels and publications that carry defaming content on women. Speaking on “Cinema, TV programmes-Affect on Society” on Tuesday here on the eve of World Women’s Week, Ramana Chowdary, doctor and president of the Rajahmundry Women Committee, said people had lost confidence in the present censor board. Muppalla Subba Rao, president of the State Human Rights Committee and senior advocate, said TV serials and films depicted some characters as getting only simple punishment for major crimes. This had an effect on society, he said. Karri Rama Reddy, psychiatrist, said obscenity in films would have negative impression on the minds of children. Sub-Inspector Balakrishna, Andhra Kesari Yuvajana Samiti founder YS Narasimha Rao, Women Committee secretary Sunkavalli Sarada, journalist Naveen and others spoke.
