Ivory seized near Taliparamba

KANNUR: The police on Tuesday seized two elephant tusks, worth Rs.1.5 lakh, reportedly being smuggled in a car at Alakkod near Taliparamba here.

Seven people were arrested. The police said they intercepted a car in the morning at Karthikapuram near Alakkode following a tip-off. Priston, 42, of Thiruvananthapuram; Shaji Kuruvila, 37, and Jose Thomas, 60, both from the suburbs of Kanhangad; T.V. Sukuchandan, 33, and Balakrishnan, 32, both from Neeleswaram; Joshi, 40, of Manakkadavu here and Binu Sreenivasan, 34, of Varkala were the ones arrested. — Staff Reporter
