Concern over violence
Kochi: The Kerala High Court has expressed concern over incidents of protest marches turning violent in the State. It said political leaders should control their cadres.
Justice R. Basant, while dismissing the anticipatory bail petitions filed by five Youth Congress leaders from Kasaragod, said “leadership in a democracy is too serious a business to be left to the Mark Antonys of Shakespearian vintage.” He said the police had put up barricades to stop the procession. However, the protesters tried to break through the police barricade. In the process, some police personnel were beaten up and the force lost its self-restraint.
Land details sought
A Bench comprising Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair and Justice T.R. Ramachandran Nair directed the Palakkad District Collector to file a detailed report on the nature and location of the 10,000 acres of land under the Emur Bhagavathi Devaswom.
The lease given to various persons by the Devaswom had been cancelled by the government. The petitioner, Nature Lovers Movement, Thiruvamkulam, sought a directive to the government to take over the land.
