Minister to inaugurate HTC

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sports Minister M. Vijayakumar will inaugurate the high altitude training centre (HTC) at Munnar on March 16.

The first phase of the work of the centre, which was commissioned in January 1995 for Rs. 7.25 crore, has been completed at a cost of Rs 5.39 crores. The centre has a grass track, volleyball and basketball courts, football pitch, an indoor stadium and a hostel.

The SAI has identified this centre as a place for training various national teams. The Indian long distance team for the Beijing Olympics will start its long term camp at this centre after its inauguration.
