Ragam-based film song show
Nithyashree Mahadevan
Carnatic vocalist and film playback singer Nithyasree Mahadevan will give a live performance on ‘Ragam-based film songs’ on March 16 at Kamaraj Memorial Hall, under the auspices of Abbas.
B.H. Abdul Hameed will be the anchor for the show, in which music troupe Ganesh Kirupa would support the singer.
Says Nithyasree Mahadevan, “Last time when I performed ‘Triveni Sangamam’ at Abbas, I presented songs sung by the three great singers M.S. Subbulakshmi, D.K. Pattammal and M.L.Vasanthakumari. This time, I have chosen numbers from various films sung by different singers such as P. Susheela, S. Janaki, Jikki, Jamuna Rani, P. Leela, Soolamangalam Sisters and Vani Jairam.”
Speaking on the highlight of the show, Ms. Mahadevan says, “I plan to sing a number by S. Varalakshmi and also a song of K.S. Chithra, who represent different eras. I will also sing the best number of K.B. Sundarambal in my style.”
She also plans to include one of her hits, ‘Kannodu Kanbadellam’ from the film ‘Jeans’, composed by A.R. Rahman, in her list.
“All the songs I plan to sing are based on 30 different ragas. They will be presented in a ‘one song, one raga’ basis.”
For those fond of old gems and evergreen melodies, the list has songs such as ‘Parthaen Siruthaen’ (ragam Sahana from the film ‘Karnan’), ‘Kattril Varum Geethame’ (ragam Kalyani from the movie ‘Oru Naal Oru Kanavu’), ‘Raman Ethanai Ramanadi’ (ragam Sindhubairavi from ‘Lakshmi Kalyanam’) and other songs from films such as ‘Chandramuki’.
