Congress promises support for High Court Bench

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday promised the support of the Congress party in setting up a High Court Bench in the capital city.

He was addressing members of the Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association who are on an indefinite satyagragha in front of the court complex at Vanchiyoor to press their demand.

The proposed all-party delegation involving Union Ministers will have the full support of the Congress, he said. “The demand for a High Court Bench in the city is not just a regional demand but that of the entire State,” Mr. Chennithala said.

Earlier, a ‘full citizen reference’ was organised by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) district committee in the morning. The highlight of the programme, attended by over 500 DYFI activists, was a talk on the necessity of setting up the Bench in the city. P. Visambharan, former Member of Parliament, and P.K.R. Warrier, medical practitioner, addressed the gathering.
