Student found dead
Special Correspondent
TAMBARAM: A 21-year-old M.B.B.S. student belonging to Manipur was found dead inside the room in which he was staying in Chromepet on Tuesday morning.
Sandip Loitongbam was the son of an engineer with the Public Works Department.
He was studying first year at a private college near Tambaram. The Chromepet police said that he was initially staying in the hostel but was asked to vacate owing to poor attendance and other problems. His parents had sent Digan, a youth, to look after him. The two are reported to have worked on their laptop till 4 a.m. on Tuesday. When Digan woke up some time later, he noticed Loitongbam unconscious. He was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Ruling out foul play, the police said preliminary investigations clearly indicated that the youth had died owing to overdose of sleeping pills, adding that the victim was addicted to drugs.
