Mala Congress MLAs threaten to resign

HYDERABAD: Fourteen Congress MLAs haling from Mala community threatened to resign from their posts if the Government takes a “unilateral” decision on categorisation of Scheduled Castes into A, B, C and D groups as demanded by MRPS leader Manda Krishna Madiga.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Congress MLAs D. Subramanyam P. Rajeswari and P. Vishwarup expressed concern over the reports that Congress MLA Dara Sambaiah had urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to expedite the categorisation of SCs. Mr. Sambaiah is not the representative of the entire community and the feelings of other members should be taken into consideration before taking a decision on the issue, they said. Urging the Government not to fall prey to “blackmail” tactics of Mr. Manda Krishna, they wanted the Usha Mehra panel constituted on the issue to take the feelings of the 57 sub-castes in the SCs for deciding on classification in a scientific manner.

The Supreme Court had already faulted the categorisation process and the Government should take a decision on the basis of population of different sub-castes, they said.
