Radio, television meet on Net

Special Correspondent

Radio Shoot, a radio-TV, is scheduled to begin broadcast in mid-April

For the people: A demonstration of Radio Shoot at Calicut Press Club on Monday.

Kozhikode: Radio Shoot, a radio-TV which can be accessed on the Internet, was launched at the Kozhikode Press Club on Monday.

The former Director of All India Radio (AIR) T.P. Rajasekharan is the chairman of the venture.

However, Radio Shoot would start regular broadcast only by mid-April this year.

It can be accessed on www.radioshoot.com by those with a conventional computer connection to the Internet.

Mr. Rajasekharan and managing director N.V. Paulose observed that the venture was meant to be an experimental broadcasting company in the private sector.

Mr. Rajasekharan believes that such a service is relevant as the government-controlled AIR and Doordarshan have ‘gone back on their commitment to the public and become detached from the public broadcasting codes.’

In many respects, the inspiration for the programme content of Radio Shoot came from the former President APJ Abdul Kalam.

The opening programme of Radio Shoot which was telecast at the press conference Monday featured a song penned by Abdul Kalam and sung by Usha Uthup.

Programmes

Radio Shoot plans to deploy 1,000 trained freelancers to generate programmes and ‘to link up with every household in the State.’

It would be possible for viewers-listeners to post their thoughts and contributions on socially relevant issues on the website. Radio Shoot’s programmes would be shaped by viewer-listener response, Mr. Rajasekharan said.
