Electoral rolls

to be published

on March 10

BANGALORE: Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami has hinted that Legislative Assembly elections in the State will be held ahead of the May 28 deadline.

At the end of an interaction with senior officials, Deputy Commissioners and officials connected with election-related work and a meeting with representatives of political parties, Mr. Gopalaswami expressed satisfaction over the progress in preparation of the revised electoral rolls.

“We will take stock of all the inputs we have received during the course of this visit and take a decision on the election calendar,” he said at a press conference.

Asked whether the announcement on the elections would be made by April 15, Mr. Gopalaswami said that by then, the final notification on the elections and preliminary work pertaining to the elections would be completed.

He said that the announcement would possibly be made much earlier.

“We are keen that the election process should be completed ahead of the deadline,” he said.

Mr. Gopalaswami said that the electoral rolls in all constituencies, barring municipal corporation areas, would be published on March 10 as scheduled.

Urban zones

In the case of the urban zones, it would be notified on March 20. The revision of electoral rolls, in accordance with the fresh delimitation of constituencies, has been completed in nine districts. It would be completed in the remaining 20 districts in the next few days.

“All preliminary work will be completed by March 25. We are happy with the progress achieved by the election machinery here,” he added.
