Meeting seeks High Court Bench in Kozhikode

Special Correspondent

Kozhikode: A strong case was made for setting up a High Court Bench in Kozhikode at a meeting held here on Wednesday.

M.K. Damodaran, former Advocate General, remarked at the function that only the High Court had the authority to decide where its Bench should be located. Neither the State Assembly nor a State government was empowered to take a decision on that matter, he said. Mr. Damodaran said that according to Constitution the matter had to be decided by the Chief Justice of the High Court in consultation with other judges of the High Court. A decision taken that way could not be changed though agitations, Mr. Damodaran remarked, referring to the agitation to press for a High Court Bench in Thiruvananthapuram. Former Minister M.K. Muneer, MES State president Fazal Gafoor, managing director of Mathrubhumi P.V. Chandran, film producer P.V. Gangadharan, and M. Rajan also spoke.
