Insurance cover for cerebral palsy, skeletal birth defects

Power tariff increased partially

PANAJI: The Goa Government on Wednesday decided to cover two specialised areas of treatment relating to children — cerebral palsy and skeletal birth defects under its medi claim cover.

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat told presspersons at Wednesday’s post-Cabinet briefing that the Government was keen to help families of such children by annual insurance or subsidy for the treatment of such disorders, many of which were not in the purview of insurance companies and for which insurance could not be bought against payment of a premium.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that Goa could perhaps be the first State to give this facility.

By another decision, the Cabinet decided to make it mandatory for the government hospital doctors to undergo continuous medical education through workshops, symposium and other learning methods.

These would be mandatory for doctors applying for renewal with Goa Medical Council and practising in Goa.

The State Cabinet decided to partially increase the power tariffs for the domestic and commercial consumers by increasing the electricity duty from eight paise a unit on both categories to 18 paise a unit for domestic consumers and 58 paise for commercial consumers.
