Para-medical Bill demanded
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The para-medical community in the country has demanded that the Government bring in a long-pending comprehensive legislation by clearing and introducing the Para-medical and Physiotherapy Central Councils Bill that would help ensure uniformity in standards of education, research and training for para-medics and allied health services across the country.
The protesters, under the umbrella of the National Public Health Alliance, have said that the Government should bring in the pending Bill at the earliest and that this legislation is required to establish an improved health care delivery system for the people.
“This Bill is also required to restrict the mushrooming of private institutions which are running exclusively on commercial interests without any laid down scientific standards and which are least concerned about the well-being of the people,” said Kamal Dhawan of the National Public Health Alliance at a press conference earlier this week.
The Alliance feels that the proposed move to establish statutory councils is highly laudable and that any attempts to derail it would have unhealthy implications for the health sector.
