NEW DELHI: Tata AutoComp GY (TGY) Batteries, an equal joint venture of Tata AutoComp Systems and Japan’s GS Yuasa, on Wednesday launched inverter batteries and said it had charted a growth plan of scaling up the production capacity of ‘Tata Green Batteries’ at its Pune facility to meet the growing demand. Addressing a press conference here, TGY Batteries Director Raman Nanda said the company has introduced a comprehensive range of automotive and inverter batteries within one year of its launch. the Tata Green inverter batteries were equipped with several innovative features and would be available in two variants, priced at Rs. 9,478 and Rs. 10,280. The company had established a robust channel network of over 4,000 dealers and distributors across the country, and plans to reach to 5,000 retailers by end of the year, he said, adding that the company was targeting an overall production of 10-lakh batteries in the next fiscal and progressively stepped up in the next two years. The company would invest Rs. 60-crore on capacity expansion, he added. Talking to reporters, company’s CEO Yogesh Dhawan said they had won a Rs. 12-crore order to supply 2.5-lakh batteries to the Indian Army in the next three months. The company was also in talks with some auto manufacturers to cater to their need. “We are currently supplying to Piaggio’s Ape. We have orders for Tata Indica, Nano. We will shortly get orders for Sumo, Safari also. We are initiating talks with all the original equipment manufacturers,” he added.
