Boat seized

L. Srikrishna

CHENNAI: The ‘Q’ Branch police on Wednesday seized a newly built boat in Kerala, allegedly meant for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Two days ago, the police arrested two Sri Lankan Tamils in Tiruchi -- Premraj of KK Nagar and his accomplice ‘Diesel’ Kumar -- on charges of having links with the banned outfit. A police source said Premraj had a long association with Sea Tigers chief Susai. At the latter’s bidding he agreed to help get the boat built. He clandestinely contacted two agents, Abdul Karim in Pudukottai and Abdul in Ramanathapuram, with the help of Kumar. As the police were maintaining tight vigil, Premraj placed the order with a company in Kochi for the 72-foot-long boat at a cost of Rs.49 lakh six months ago.
