Home Minister K. Jana Reddy denies high-handed behaviour by police CD on the incident to be made available to the Speaker HYDERABAD: A DIG rank officer has been asked to enquire into the recent incident involving TDP legislator Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu and police at Narsipatnam and action will be taken if any excess was committed. Announcing this in the Assembly on Wednesday, Home Minister K. Jana Reddy denied any high-handed behaviour by police. Apart from the report, a CD on the incident would be made available to the Speaker. All the floor leaders would be invited to examine them. Giving details, he said that during the third phase of the Indiramma Housing Committee Awareness programme, Mr. Patrudu had questioned Commercial Taxes Minister K. Ramakrishna on pending pensions to beneficiaries and also the package to land losers for the proposed bauxite refinery in Makavarapalem mandal. He said Mr. Ramakrishna had given clarifications but the MLA was not satisfied and walked out. Though the Minister proposed to hold talks, he refused and obstructed the convoy with his followers. After having repeatedly requested the MLA to let the convoy pass, police had to lift him along with followers. In protest Mr. Patrudu staged a sit-in. Subsequently a Narsipatnam bandh was called. Heated atmosphereAcrimonious exchanges took place between the Opposition members, who demanded action against police, and Housing Minister B. Satyanarayana during the debate. Lashing out at the Government, M.A. Gafoor (CPI-M) wanted the Speaker to send a senior officer to inquire into the incident. ‘Injustice done’Narrating other incidents, TDP members A. Sridevi and L. Lalitha Kumari alleged that injustice was being done to Dalits and there was no protection to Dalit MLAs in the Congress rule. Protesting against a remark by Mr. Satyanarayana, TDP member Ch.Venkata Rao alleged his involvement in the Volskwagen scam. Rebutting the charges, the Minister stated that he had in fact urged the Lok Ayukta to expedite the probe and had not sought stay like “their leaders”. T. Devender Goud, TDLP deputy leader, charged the Minister with “irresponsible” behaviour and provoking members. Even as the Minister hit back, Deputy Speaker G. Kuthuhalamma adjourned the House.
