Panic at helipad where Naidu was to land
Staff Reporter
Gun goes off accidentally, injuring fireman
NELLORE: A tense situation prevailed, albeit for a few minutes, among people who were waiting for the helicopter carrying TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu here on Wednesday.
They were all clueless when a fireman, Bellamkonda Veeraiah, sustained injuries after the Visual Light Pistol misfired while an Armed Reserve Police constable, Abdul Karim, was unloading it at the helipad.
It all happened a few minutes before Naidu’s landing at the marriage function venue of TDP senior leader Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy’s daughter.
According to Superintendent of Police B. Malla Reddy, the constable was to fire in the air from a pistol in order to guide the helicopter on to the location. The officials realised that the helicopter was not the one that was carrying the TDP chief. It misfired while he was unloading, thus injuring the fireman.
The police are investigating the case, the Mr. Reddy said.
