Plan finalised

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Annual Plan for Maharashtra 2008-09 was on Wednesday finalised at Rs. 25,000 crore at a meeting here between the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh.

The outlay includes a further Central assistance of Rs. 250 crore for special projects.

Dr. Ahluwalia hailed the State Government for its performance in fiscal matters and human development. Its growth rate was also satisfactory.

Growth rate

Against a 3.8 per cent growth in the Ninth Plan, the State had recorded 8.2 per cent during the Tenth Plan. Improvement in urban infrastructure, housing, irrigation and agriculture should be given priority. Performance in agriculture and efforts aimed at accelerating socio-economic upliftment of minority were, however, appreciated. The Commission was keen on improving the performance of Centrally- sponsored programmes.
