Mormugao, JNPT in final

VISAKHAPATNAM: Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) edged out last year’s runner-up Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) by one run to make the final of 28th all-India Major ports cricket tournament here on Wednesday.

Holder Mormugao beat Mumbai by eight wickets in the other semifinal.

The final will be played at the Port Stadium on Thursday.

The scores: JNPT 164 in 40 overs (Mahesh Gharat 43, Adrich Gonzalves 41 n.o.) bt Visakhapatnam 163 for nine in 40 overs (H. Vatekar 76).

Mumbai 258 for eight in 40 overs (S. Jamsandekar 100 n.o., S. Srivastav 59) lost to Mormugao 263 for two in 38 overs (S. Dabholkar 88 retd., Dheeraj Narvekar 56 n.o., D. Kholkar 42, Rahul S. Borkar 42). — Special Correspondent
