BBMP clarification on trade licence

Bangalore: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has clarified that traders need not obtain power licence if they are using generator as an alternative source for lighting and air conditioners during power shutdown and not as motive power involving in the line of production, manufacture, pressing, packing goods and so on. However, the civic body will take action if such generators become a source of nuisance, said a release.

The BBMP has also made it clear that trades such as tailoring and embroidery shops, laundries engaged only in ironing clothes and not involved in washing, electronic trade, software companies and business process outsourcing firms, traders in utensils, stationery shops, booksellers, library, including audio-video library, traders involved in sale of furniture and not engaged in manufacture of furniture, sale of sports goods, optical shops, radio and television repair shops, automobile spare parts do not require trade licence.

While extending the deadline to obtain or renew trade licence till March 7 without penalty, the BBMP said traders can get their licences renewed on the spot at any of the offices of the Range Medical Officers; on the premises of the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries, K.G. Road; the Bangalore Hoteliers’ Association, K.R. Road, and the Karnataka Pradesh Hotels and Restaurants Association, Seshadripuram.

Licences can be obtained by paying a penalty of 25 per cent of the licence fee after March 7 and up to March 31 and with 100 per cent licence fee from April 1 to April 30.
