Collector reviews progress of the housing scheme Officials told not to encourage middlemen Srikakulam: District Collector Nagulapalli Srikanth has delivered a stern warning to officials entrusted with the task of executing Indiramma housing programme. ‘You deliver or face stern action’ Mr.Srikanth said while reviewing progress of Indiramma housing scheme at the Dr.Ambedkar auditorium here on Wednesday evening. Tahasildars, Mandal Parishad Development Officers, Housing AEs who are mandal level housing officers and task force officers were entrusted with the task of executing the scheme. Even though there was no dearth of funds for the programme, money had not been released for completed houses. An amount of Rs.120 crore was to be paid to the completed houses, but only Rs.100 crores had been paid, he pointed out, directing officials concerned to pay the remaining Rs.20 crores within a week. He had also received complaints of officials demanding money from beneficiaries for payment of bills. Such persons would face stringent action, he warned. He had also wanted officials not to encourage middlemen. Officials should visit villages from Thursday and find out the reasons why work on sanctioned houses had not been grounded and take steps to commence work immediately. The names of ineligible candidates as also persons who had migrated permanently, if found, should be deleted. Mr.Srikanth sought an explanation from officers concerned in Ponduru, Sitampeta, Mandasa , Ranasthalam, Santhabommali mandals why the progress was poor. At the same time he patted the housing officers of Itchapuram and Saruvakota for showing good results. Joint Collector G. Kishan wanted officials to visit Indiramma villages at least twice in a week and monitor progress. Payments to housing beneficiaries should be made through the village samakhyas only. DRDA Project Director, T.Baburao Naidu, Chief Executive Officer of ZP Kondaiah Sastry, Sub-Collector M. M. Naik and RDOs S.Venkateswara Rao and PMJ Babu attended the meeting.
