Congress, BJP bracing for show of strength

Staff Reporter

BERHAMPUR: Sparks of verbal warfare are likely to fly in Berhampur on Sunday as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and BJP leader Binay Katiyar will be in the city to attend public meetings.

Both parties are using these public meetings as their show of strength in south Orissa. The BJP public meeting ‘Sankalp Samavesh’ will be held in the Khallikote autonomous college stadium at 1 p.m. on that day. The public meeting of the Congress ‘Yuva-Kisan Samavesh’, to be attended by Mr. Gandhi will be held at the MKCG Medical College ground at 2 p.m. The air distance between both these venues is less than one km. Earlier, the Congress rally was planned to be held in Berhampur stadium but it was shifted as it was too close to the venue of the BJP public meeting.

Top state-level leaders of both parties are monitoring the preparations for their respective public meetings. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr Sahu said they expect at least 50,000 persons to attend Mr. Rahul’s public meeting.
