DAVANGERE: Pavithra Lokesh, cine actor, has said that folklores have abundant values and are an effective medium of conveying morals to people in a simple manner. Inaugurating the “Yuvajana Mela” of the Bangalore division here on Thursday, Ms. Lokesh said that folk songs, “gigi pada”, “veeragase” and “ragi bisuva pada” had varied messages and guided people on how to lead a contented life. Folk arts would help develop oneness and patriotism among people, she said. Dyaberi, Deputy Commissioner of Davangere district, in his welcome address said that over 100 youth from nine districts were participating in the festival. The festival was being organised not to assess the calibre of the youth in different fields but to bring them together and make them to think about building society and the country in a better way, he said. Suchindra Prasad, television artiste; Madamma Muniswamy, Mayor of Davangere; and Nijalingappa, Chief Executive Officer of Davangere Zilla Panchayath spoke. Ramappa, president of the zilla panchayat, who presided over the function, said that there was a proposal to hold an international youth festival in Davangere and discussions were going on in this regard. Mr. Ramappa said that he and other officials would go to Delhi on March 15 to hold a preliminary discussion on organising the international youth festival during September.
