Devotees throng car festival

GIVING A HAND: Pilgrims pulling the car of Sri Ramanathasamy at Rameswaram on Thursday.

RAMESWARAM: Hundreds of devotees on Thursday took part in the car festival of Sri Ramanathasamy temple here.

The decorated temple car was taken along the important streets amid chanting of hymns and slokas. It was part of the 11 day Masi Maha Sivarathiri festival.

Devotees hailing from Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Madurai, Tiruchi and nearby districts participated in large numbers. There were also pilgrims from north India. A group of foreign tourists also participated by pulling the car enthusiastically.

Hundreds of Sivanadiars also visited Rameswaram to take part in Maha Sivarathiri.
