PUDUCHERRY: Posing as gold polishers, two men duped a woman of her gold ornaments worth around Rs. 30,000 here on Wednesday. According to police, the men came to the house of Dhanalakshmi in Nellithope and told her that they had a special powder to polish gold and silver ornaments. As Dhanalakshmi got impressed by the way the men polished a few of her bangles, she gave the ‘mangala suthra’ to them, police said. They informed her that the ‘mangala suthra’ had been kept in a steel box to be heated. She took the box to the kitchen to heat the ornament and later found that the ‘mangala suthra’ was not inside it. By the time she came to the portico in search of the duo, they had vanished, police said.
