Man had allegedly giving poison-laced food to wife 3 others accused of conspiring to kill also acquitted NEW DELHI: A man charged with killing his wife 19 years ago has been acquitted by a court here as the key witnesses did not support the prosecution case. Three others, including a woman, accused of conspiring to kill the woman have also been acquitted. Additional Sessions Judge Dinesh K. Sharma said though it was unfortunate that a woman had lost her life, the witnesses, including the victim’s brother and father, did not support the prosecution case for reasons best known to them. The court said, “this is an old case which ultimately has demolished brick by brick as the witnesses of the justice delivery system have chosen not to support the case of the prosecution. Surprisingly, the casualty is the justice.” Illicit relationshipAccording to the prosecution, the deceased, Kamlesh, wedded Rajender, a resident of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh the year 1974 and their marital relation was cordial. In 1985, Rajender allegedly developed an illicit relationship with co-accused Annapurna, for which the couple’s relationship got strained. Wife’s objectionWhen Kamlesh continued to object t,o her husband’s relationship with Annapurna, Rajender allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with Dharamveer and Pappu, the two other accused, to eliminate her. On May 7, 1989, the accused had allegedly given poison-laced food to Kamlesh who died in a hospital a few days later.
