Meet on tribal land issue
Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said a conference of State-level organisations of tribal people will be convened on March 11 to discuss distribution of land to them.
Talking to presspersons after a Cabinet meeting here on Thursday, the Chief Minister said the conference would discuss plans for implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act. Asked about the agitation by tribal people at Chengara in Pathanamthitta district for land, Mr. Achuthanandan said the agitation was being led in the name of tribal people by those having land and houses. The conference would discuss the genuine problems of tribal people, he said.
