KANNUR: Law and order situation in and around Thalassery worsened with the murder of a BJP worker at Chittariparamba near Koothuparamba on Thursday evening. Another BJP worker was stabbed at nearby Kaitheri. With this the number of people who have been killed in political violence since Wednesday rose to four. The police said that BJP worker A. Mahesh (32), an autorickshaw driver, was murdered by a group of suspected Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers at around 6 p.m. He was standing near the Chittariparamba bus stop when the assailants carrying country-made bombs and weapons attacked him. His head was nearly severed in the attack which was preceded by bomb explosions. He died on the spot. BJP worker, identified as Anil Kumar, suffered stab injuries in the attack at Kaitheri. He was admitted to a hospital at Thalassery. The latest murder took place even as nearly 600 police personnel were deployed in the sensitive areas in and around Thalassery in view of the murder of two BJP-RSS workers and a CPI(M) worker on Wednesday.
