‘Policy needed for dairy development’

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Bangalore Rural Zilla Panchayat president C. Muniyappa has called for a new “all-inclusive policy on dairying”.

Mr. Muniyappa was participating in the training programme on dairying for dairy farmers held here on Thursday.

He said the present policy on dairying was not conducive for developments that the dairy farming had to undergo to meet the global standards. He said the demands of professional dairy farming was increasing following the threat of new diseases that were threatening to hit the profit margin of dairy farmers. He said there was a need to improve the marketability of value added dairy and poultry products and pay more attention to the hygiene part.

Zilla Panchayat Standing Committee chairman H.P. Cheluvaraju said farmers should protect their animals from courting diseases.
