NEW DELHI: Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee president Charan Das Mahant has complained to Governor E.L.S. Narasimhan about the “anti-constitutional” conduct of the government in ‘protecting’ a former party M.P. accused of spreading communal hatred. In a letter to Mr. Narasimhan, the Pradesh Congress chief drew his attention to a former Member of Parliament Ramvilas Vedanti (Bharatiya Janata Party) whose recent speech at the Rajim Kumbh Mela ‘sought to create enmity’ among different religious communities and ‘attempted to disrupt tranquillity and law and order’ in the State. Mr. Mahant appealed to the Governor to direct the State to take strong action against Mr. Vedanti. “We also request you to call for a report from the police chief on the incident,” he said. He alleged that the former M.P. used the ‘most unparliamentary’ language against the Congress president, the Prime Minister and also lowered the dignity of the office of Governor.
