CHENNAI: KE-Burgmann Flexibles India, a wholly owned subsidiary of KE-Burgmann of Denmark, a world leader in the manufacture of expansion joints, has opened its second facility in India at Raipur, Chhattisgarh. (Expansion joints are installed as flexible connections in duct and piping systems to prevent damage in power, chemical, cement, pulp and paper plants). The company’s first facility is located in Chennai. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Peter L. Nielsen, CEO, KE-Burgmann Group, said the company had been manufacturing fabric, metal and rubber expansion joints with a variety of designs. It introduced PTFE fibreglass laminates for compensators in flue gas ducting system used in all major thermal power plants. The Chennai unit has a capacity to produce 100 units a month and the capacity would be doubled by the year-end, Mr. Nielsen said. The Raipur plant has a capacity to turn out 50 units a month. D. Lahiri, Managing Director, KE-Burgmann India, said Reliance Industries had approved the use of KE-Burgmann products in its IPCL, Nagathone plant and placed a repeat order. Other major clients included NTPC, ABB, Siemens, Shell, BPCL, Madras cements, L&T, ONGC and BHEL, Mr. Lahiri said. By 2010, the company was planning to launch a slew of products for the Indian market, he said.
