JAIPUR: The feeder renovation programme launched by the three public sector power companies in Rajasthan is expected to be completed by July this year, facilitating an uninterrupted supply of electricity to 35,000 villages across the State. The Chairman and Managing Director of Rajasthan Vidyut Prasaran Nigam, Shrimat Pandey, instructed the three power companies at a video-conference interaction here on Tuesday to simultaneously achieve the target of 5 per cent reduction in the transmission and distribution losses. Mr. Pandey said the demand notices for new agricultural power connections would be issued from the next month, while the simplification of electricity bills would start without delay. The power projects in the State have already set a record by producing 7 crore units of electricity daily during the past four months to meet the needs of farmers for their rabi crops. During November 2007 to February 2008, 120 crore units more in comparison with the last year were produced in the State. The Chairman and Managing Director of Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam, N. S. Chaudhary, said the Suratgarh, Kota and Dholpur projects had produced 90 per cent of their power generation capacity, while Giral and Ramgarh plants had produced 65 per cent. The Vidyut Utpadan Nigam will establish five new units of a total capacity of 1,070 MW in the State at an estimated cost of Rs.4,900 crore this year. He said the Nigam’s total power production capacity would go up to 4,094 MW after the installation of these projects.
