BANGALORE: “Lankesh Chitra Prashasti 2007”, instituted in memory of P. Lankesh by his daughter Kavita Lankesh, will be presented to Marathi film director Mangesh Hadawale for his film Tingya. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Ms. Kavitha Lankesh said that Lankesh wanted to encourage up-and-coming directors and new talent. The award was being given to such a director. This was the second time that Marathi film directors had bagged the award, she said. She said that the award would be presented to Mr. Hadawale on March 8, birth anniversary of Lankesh. The award presentation ceremony would be held at Ravindra Kalakshetra. The award comprised a citation and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. Tingya would be screened after the function at 6.30 p.m., she said JuryShe said that the jury comprised filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli, writers Vijayamma and Ismail, and cinematographer Deepu. Mr. Kasarvalli said Tingya was selected for the award considering its theme and narration. The Marathi film is based on the life of a farmer in the backdrop of contemporary rural milieu, which has been neglected in the name of development. Mr. Deepu said that the other entries for the award were equally competent.
