Mumbai: The BCCI is upset at match referee Jeff Crowe’s independent move to investigate Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh’s alleged misdemeanour after the first Commonwealth Bank tri-series final at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Talking to The Hindu from Sydney, the BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah said: “I have taken up the matter with the International Cricket Council (ICC). How can Jeff Crowe conduct an inquiry without informing the Indian team management? “Can newspaper reports and photographs be basis to conduct an inquiry? Harbhajan Singh was jeered by the crowd. I am keenly awaiting ICC’s response to my letter,” said Shah. He also said that he will take up this issue at the next ICC CEC meeting about Crowe’s decision to investigate and also request I.S. Bindra to open the matter the ICC board meeting this month. Through an ICC media release Crowe had said “he investigated the alleged incident with Cricket Australia’s ground security officials after reading the newspaper reports, and viewing the related photographs that have been published. After reviewing all the available information, I conclude that there is no need to take any action against Harbhajan.” — Special Correspondent
