THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government will create a Gender Board as part of its efforts to tackle marginalisation of women, Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has said. Presenting the budget, Dr. Isaac said the Gender Board would have a gender adviser as convener and the Social Welfare Minister as chairperson. Unofficial members, the Director of Kudumbasree Mission, the Director of Coir, the Director of Cashew, secretaries of Social Welfare, Local Self-government, SC/ST Development, and Fisheries, and secretary of the Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation would be members of the board. A cell would be established in the Social Welfare Department to support the board. The Finance Department would come out with a special statement on the gender impact of projects along with the budget as was being done at the Centre, he said. The objective of this measure was to ensure that at least 10 per cent of the projects under the State Plan benefit women directly. At present, no statistics on this were available and this was making it impossible to decide what benefit women derived from the projects, he said.
